In the coastal city of Sorrento in Italy, they are introducing a dress code that everyone must follow. The city wants the tourists to follow “the local customs” and they want to do away with what they describe as “inappropriate and decent behavior”.
Thus, one can only wear a bikini and have a bare stomach on the beach – but nowhere else in the city.
To Danish TV 2 says Massimo Coppola, the mayor of Sorrento, that he is afraid that someone will be scared away from the city if people scatter around the city in a bikini.

– This applies to both Italian citizens and tourists. It can damage the city’s reputation and scare away someone who would otherwise have wanted to come here, the mayor says to TV 2.
Coppola has therefore signed a law banning both guests and locals from wearing swimwear elsewhere than on the beach.
If you break the law, which came into force on 5 July, you may end up having to pay a fine of 500 euros, or 5000 Norwegian kroner.
