A Viking study from 2019 shows that 35 percent of working Dutch people have a tattoo. At that time, visible tattoos were banned by 14 percent of companies. WOMAN colleague M. does not think this is necessary. Wearing a tattoo visibly is and remains your own choice, she believes. “I don’t comment on my colleagues’ shoes that I don’t like, do I?” She does make a comment: “It depends on where the visible tattoo is. I find it scary in the neck or on the head.”

It is a fact that tattoos are becoming more and more popular. Where there were only 958 tattoo parlors in 2013, there were already 2041 in 2020, according to research by the Chamber of Commerce. The provinces of North Holland, Limburg and Flevoland count the most.
