“Camon Rose Festival Introduces ‘Bikes and Roses’ Operation to Promote Soft Mobility”

As every year, on the occasion of the 3rd weekend of May, the town of Camon organizes the Roses Festival. For the first time, a cycle route is organized upstream by the Cathar Pyrenees Tourist Office. The objective: to enhance the greenway that connects Lavelanet to Mirepoix.

This is already the 20th edition: the Rose Festival will take place in Camon on May 14, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. An event that brings together a good number of Ariège residents and (lucky) passing tourists each year. The 400 rosebushes in the village were then at their peak, and the gourmet & floral farmers’ market delighted visitors. The program is completed this year by concerts of lyrical music, piano, violin and cello and world music, an exhibition of photos and commented walks in the surrounding hills, a balloon release… Not to mention the refreshment bar presents all the day. Note that the concerts held in the heart of the cloister of the abbey-château are chargeable, at the single price of 8€.

Promoting soft mobility

New this year, with the “bikes and roses” operation, designed by the Cathar Pyrenees Tourist Office. The ODT indeed offers visitors to get on their bikes, the morning of May 14, to come and enjoy the Camon rose festival, without a car. The opportunity to promote the greenway and soft mobility, to exert yourself…and to unclog Camon!

Several starting points are planned for a smooth stroll adapted to the preferences of each volunteer: from the Super U car park in Mirepoix, from 10 a.m., for 15 km, from the entrance to the greenway in Lavelanet at 9:30 a.m. for 23 km, from the old station of Laroques d’Olmes at 10 am for 20 km. Departures are also organized in Caudeval and Chalabre, in Aude. Registration is free, but compulsory to participate in this event: it allows you to benefit from a breakfast at the start and a t-shirt at the finish, for the first 50 registered. Bicycle parking will of course be offered on arrival in Camon, on the greenway. But beware: padlocks or anti-theft devices are not provided!
