The Lapa pebble pier, in the municipality of Ribeira Brava, has already been recovered. The vice-president of the Regional Government, Pedro Calado, says that “the intervention of the Madeira Port Administration (APRAM), allowed to improve the conditions of bathing enjoyment, thus corresponding to the requests of the population, not only of the municipality of Ribeira Brava, but also from neighboring counties “.
According to Pedro Calado, “in addition to improving the space for enjoyment in that bathing area, this intervention has also made it possible to improve the protection of access to the sea and, thus, also strengthen the safety of holidaymakers”.
The Calhau da Lapa, considered one of the ex-libris of the parish of Campanário, is a very popular bathing area, especially during this summer period, so, as stated by Pedro Calado, “there was a need to rehabilitate this important access to the sea” .
Essentially, the work, which took place over a week, consisted of repairing and reinforcing damaged slopes. An intervention that was carried out by sea, in order to minimize the impact and the constraints on access to the sea.
This intervention, added Pedro Calado, safeguards, on the one hand, the quality and safety of these infrastructures and, on the other hand, also meets the expectations of the people who frequent this bathing area, creating, also, conditions for the development of the activity which is fundamental in this period that we are going through “.
