For 7 years, the Sugar Consortium of industrial enterprises (FIELD) reported that he replaced the use of chemical fertilizers with organic fertilizer in more than three thousand hectares of sugar cane every year.

The company’s statement indicates that this initiative by circular economy obtained the inclusion of the company in the third Catalog of Promising Practices promoted by the National Council for Private Enterprises (Conep) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Through the project “Alternatives for the organic fertilization of sugar cane”, FIELD showed how he replaced Chemical fertilizers for a compost that uses residues from its factory and other small farms in its area of ​​influence.

“By this way FIELD annually processes and reuses 68,500 tons of waste from sugar agro-industrial process and other local industries, replacing 22,500 quintals of synthetic chemical fertilizers with organic sources,” said Benigno Trueba, executive vice president of the company.

This initiative responds to the Sustainable Development Goals 9 and 12, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and Responsible Consumption and Production

The program of production and application of organic fertilizer allowed the replacement of large quantities of Chemical fertilizersimprove agricultural yields and have a positive impact on the fertility of sugar cane soils, the profitability of the company and surrounding communities, Trueba indicated.

It is a pattern of circular economywhich guarantees the reuse of waste from the agro-industrial processing of sugar and other local industries.

The implementation process was accompanied by a research program led by Pedro Luís Cortegaza, research and development manager of the field addressor, which contributed to the optimization of the productive process and field operations.

The executive said that the use of organic fertilizers has made it possible to increase production from 5 to 30 tons of cane per hectare compared to conventional chemical fertilizationwhich has allowed considerable savings and returns to the company.

in 2020 FIELD participated in the first catalog with the initiative Integral management waste, while in 2021 the company adhered to the second document of this type with the project on the biological control of natural enemies of sugar cane.

With the use of the organic fertilizer of the Consortium FIELD he reduced his ecological footprintin which a decrease in emissions of 2,279,661 tons of CO2 was calculated, due to the use of organic fertilizers to replace Chemical fertilizers conventional.
