Cabinet will strongly advise against traveling abroad | Inland

Ministers Blok (Foreign Affairs), Van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure) and State Secretary Van Veldhoven announced this. With this new approach, the Netherlands is not yet on the German tour, our eastern neighbors do not recommend any foreign trip.

The Hague does warn: traveling abroad is a risk in the current situation. The tone for travel plans to countries with orange or red travel advice is firmer: ‘Is your trip not necessary? Stay at home!’

That call has been around for some time, but in the House of Representatives, among others, there is criticism of the visibility of this message. Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen will now use navigation systems and social media to point out orange travel advice to motorists and the consequences if you do go: 10 days of quarantine.

Van Veldhoven, as State Secretary responsible for rail, has agreed with the Dutch Railways that no more advertising may be made for international train journeys. Almost all destinations are now turning orange. The government is also in talks with the travel world to end the promotion of travel to risk areas and to ask to refer to the travel advice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as standard.

‘Situation can change quickly’

Traveling abroad is a risk in the current situation. People who want to go on holiday abroad must take into account that the health situation in a country can change quickly, causing the holiday destination to suddenly turn orange, with all the associated consequences. With regard to a holiday trip to an area with an orange or red travel advice: do not go.

Furthermore, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets and the Advertising Code Committee will include it in their supervision of advertisements. Offering such an ‘orange trip’ can be seen as a deception. The House has been angry for some time about Ryanair’s stunt prices to risk areas.
