Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Faisal Basri, economist at the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF) revealed that the situation in President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) government cabinet is not conducive. Several ministers were reportedly so angry that they were ready to resign from the cabinet.
One of them, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, is morally ready to resign from her position as Minister of Finance in President Joko Widodo’s government. Then there is the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono.
“Morally, I heard that Mrs. Sri Mulyani is most ready to resign,” said Faisal at the Political Economic Outlook event held by PROGRESIF, as quoted on Wednesday (17/1/2024).
Faisal revealed that the ministers who were ready to resign were waiting for the right moment to resign. According to him, the minister’s resignation process also occurred during the era of President Soeharto’s government.
“Hopefully, God willing, this momentum will soon become a powerful trigger, such as Pak Ginandjar (Coordinating Minister for Economics, Finance and Industry Ginandjar Kartasasmita) and 12 other ministers resigning during Pak Harto’s era (1998 Development Reform Cabinet era),” said Faisal.
Faisal also called on the public to work together to persuade the ministers who are ready to resign to immediately execute their plans. According to him, their reasons are actually not wrong because President Jokowi is siding in the 2024 presidential election with only one candidate.
“Come on, let’s persuade Mrs. Sri Mulyani, Mr. Basuki and several other ministers to resign. That will have a powerful effect,” said Faisal.
