Cabinet makes a decision today: will one-day festivals continue?

Actually, the government would only make a decision about the multi-day festivals in a week and a half, but the cabinet announced last week that it will be discussed today.

‘Unfortunately’

Due to the increase in the number of corona infections and the spread of the delta variant, the cabinet decided last month that it is not responsible to continue multi-day festivals. “Unfortunately,” said outgoing Prime Minister Rutte about the decision that these festivals will remain banned until September 1.

The cabinet said it would make a decision on one-day festivals on 13 August. Festival organization ID&T and more than forty affiliated event organizers disagreed and initiated summary proceedings to enforce clarity before 1 August.

‘Being able to convince the government’

When the cabinet announced last week that it would make a decision today about one-day festivals after August 14, ID&T announced that it would wait a little longer with the summary proceedings. If the cabinet decides today that festivals without overnight stays will be banned until September 1, the summary proceedings will still take place, according to ID&T.

Rosanne Janmaat of ID&T is positive and hopes that the cabinet will decide today that one-day festivals can continue – as a matter of course in a safe and responsible way. “We are pleased that we have been able to convince the cabinet of the necessity of rapid decision-making for our industry.”
