Cabin crew strike at Brussels Airlines in December has been averted

Brussels Airlines cabin crew would stop work on December 1, 2 and 3, the French-speaking Christian union CNE reported last Thursday. The company does not respect various collective labor agreements, it was said. The strike notice was submitted as a joint trade union front, but it soon became clear that the other trade unions were giving the management some more room for negotiation.

Today, those negotiations have led to an agreement not to strike in December, reports Olivier Van Camp of the socialist trade union BBTK. That was important for the company because the holidays and holiday period are just around the corner, and the unions understood that, he says.

According to Van Camp, the management has put a “serious and extensive proposal” on the table with financial guarantees and agreements regarding working conditions, rest and guaranteed income in the event of illness. The staff will be consulted about this during December.

For the pilots of Brussels Airlines, who submitted a strike notice on Wednesday for actions from December 11, a reconciliation meeting will follow on Monday.
