Environmentally friendly vehicle manufacturer from China, BYD, will penetrate its business in Indonesia. After providing electric vehicles for public transportation fleets such as Bluebird electric taxis and TransJakarta electric buses, BYD will sell electric cars to retail consumers. BYD will announce its business plan in the first half of next year.
“For the Indonesian market, we will continue to bring the best competitive products from the automotive industry. Of course taxis and city buses have started. Next are passenger vehicles,” said General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division Liu Xueliang when met at BYD’s head office in Shengzhen, China.
From this plan, it seems that BYD will not only sell imported electric cars, but will also set up a production factory in Indonesia. Liu also conveyed this, although he did not mention when exactly to set up the factory in Indonesia.
“After the product was launched, some of the points you mentioned such as local manufacturing, new energy solutions, and even a rail transit system we are also seriously considering from now on,” said Liu.
Liu admitted that many countries had asked BYD to invest. According to him, the large number of requests is a happy ‘problem’ for BYD.
“It is difficult for us to create universal standards to meet the demands of all countries. But today here we are confident to show our intentions regarding the possibility of local manufacturing in Indonesia,” said Liu.
Liu continued, his party is still waiting for policy certainty from the Indonesian government before establishing a new factory in Indonesia. If the regulations are clear, BYD will commit to investing in Indonesia.
“The details regarding investment funding are currently still in our hands. But it is certain that, when the detailed regulations and implementation of the policy are formalized, we will be the first to welcome these incentive regulations. And we are also trying our best to announce our business plans in “Indonesia. When BYD invests really depends on the level of trust of policy makers,” said Liu.
