FC Köln had said goodbye to the season with a 1: 6 in Bremen. The promoted player had already made it 1: 1 perfect against Eintracht Frankfurt the week before in the first division.

Presidium wants continuity

“We would like to achieve continuity in the position of managing director of sport and are convinced that this will succeed with Horst Heldt. He has made an important change at FC since he started in November under difficult conditions. With his experience, his ability to work in a team and his clarity in analyzes and decisions, he has everything for us to help FC get on the right path in the medium and long term, ”said Wolf.

“FC is my club”

In November 2019, Heldt am Geißbockheim took responsibility for the sporting interests of 1. FC Köln KGaA. The 50-year-old had started his professional career at 1. FC Köln, then he had worked at VfB Stuttgart, Schalke 04 and Hannover 96 as head of sports. “FC is my club. It makes me proud to work with the entire team at Geißbockheim for this club. We have achieved our goals together over the past few months – but that is only the first step. FC also faces major challenges in all areas because of the consequences of the corona crisis, ”said Heldt.

The manager will be busy in the coming days to renegotiate the contract with trainer Markus Gisdol, which has been extended by one season after the relegation, the signs on Geißbockheim currently indicate that Gisdol can also expect an extension. In addition, Heldt will have to ensure that the Cologne squad is significantly reduced after a turbulent year. Currently, 37 professionals are under contract with FC.
