Butyankov has been recognized as the best power striker in the Russian Super League

Latvian basketball player Artyom Butyankov was recognized as the best power striker of the Russian Super League last season on Friday, but his new teammate Vladimir Pichkurov won the most valuable player award, the tournament organizers said.

It has already been reported that Butyankov will continue his career in the Russian Super League team “Samara”.

The Super League Council held two meetings to agree on the best players for the Super League and also for the weakest championships.

Butjankova’s new team “Samara” basketball players could be found in several boxes. The Latvian received the honor of the best striker, but Antons Glazunovs was recognized as the best leader of the match.

Meanwhile, both teammates Pičkurovs earned the title of the most observant player in the league.

The Burevestnik club took third place last season with 17 victories in 26 games, while the Samara team won 21 successes and took a position in the Super League championship.

The 28-year-old striker Butyankov has played for the Yaroslavl “Burevestnik” team in the Super League for the past two seasons. Due to an injury, the Rezekne player went to the field last season only in 16 games, in which he averaged 19.1 points and won 8.5 rebounds, ranking fourth and second in these statistics, respectively.

Butyankov spent the 2017/2018 season in the Russian Super League team Vladivostok “Spartak Primorje”, becoming the tournament champion. At the beginning of the next season, he was a member of “VEF Rīga”, but after the probationary period, both sides did not continue cooperation, the basketball player also played one game for the Jūrmala team before returning to Russia.

Before playing in Russia, he represented the Liepaja team, being recognized as the most advanced player of the Latvian championship in the 2016/2017 season. Before joining Liepāja club, Butjankovs represented “Ventspils” for three seasons, but even before that he also played in “Valmiera” and “Barons kvartāls” teams.

Butjankovs has played four games for the Latvian national team, in which he has gained an average of 5.3 points and won 2.3 rebounds. In February, he helped Latvia in the first two games of the next European Championship qualifying cycle.

Samara took second place in the Super League at the end of the season and was also classified in that position. The team also triumphed last season in the Russian Cup, where only local players can participate.
