On Friday, a FC Lugano player will test positive and be put in quarantine. Also a second one who was in contact with the first player. The first player is likely to be goalie Noam Baumann, the second is defender Linus Obexer. A Ticino journalist had spilled on «Teleticino» and talked about the goalie after speaking to his adviser.

But player 1 is perplexed by the positive result, he had never shown symptoms and was able to train fully. Not even signs of fatigue had spread. The next day he takes a second and even a third test in his home country. Both are negative. The player breathes. Lugano, on the other hand, stinks.

And immediately conspiracy theories proliferate. Because it was clear that one had to be positive, because a club did the tests that wants to end the season. So there are obscure bets on the number of Corona positives at FC Sion, who wants to do the tests this week: one, two or three …

Not provided in the protocol
Back to Lugano. President Angelo Renzetti, too, is confronted with such theories and is excited that the sport, his desire for the end of the season, has nothing to do with health. «I separate it strictly. For me it is simply not morally justifiable to send players to the field without a test. All clubs should handle it that way. »
–
Renzetti does not want to communicate the negative results with his player shortly after the positive but for a long time. Managing Director Michele Campana is also brief: “The protocol that we received from the cantonal doctor does not provide that the patient should undergo a second test.” Only on Tuesday at 5 p.m. does the club publish an explanatory piece by the doc.

Player must remain in quarantine
And yet the question arises why one test was positive and a second and third shortly afterwards negative. Club doctor Marco Marano confirms this possibility: “On the one hand because the infection can be in a terminal phase, which is likely here because the player also had antibodies. Secondly, because the second apparatus could not have had the same sensitivity as the first if the tests were carried out in two different laboratories. »
–
The player may then take a deep breath. Nevertheless, he must remain in quarantine. Marano: “Mainly because the number of false negative tests is much higher than the other way around.” Therefore, a player can only train with the team again after the prescribed ten quarantine days.
