The Surinamese government has announced that a full lockdown will again apply on Thursday. That day is a national holiday due to the end of Ramadan. Health Minister Ramadhin says he wants to avoid mass rallies.
The government decided that a lockdown will also be instituted on other national holidays. It was previously announced that Suriname will go into lockdown today, due to Mother’s Day.
At a press conference, Ramadhin expressed concern about the high percentage of positive tests. Last day almost 29 percent of the test results were positive. It concerned 87 new corona patients. Star news reports that hospitals have been instructed to scale up regular care in order to retain sufficient capacity for the corona patients.
