Contract Sergio Busquets with Barcelona expires in the summer of next year. Busquets could have tried another challenge.
The Spanish midfielder has strengthened Barcelona for almost 1.5 decades. Busquets became part of a golden generation of Barca who had ruled the world of European football by winning the treble in 2009 and 2015.
Overall, the 33-year-old footballer has won 30 championship medals. These include eight LaLiga titles, seven Copa del Rey and three Champions Leagues.
The new Busquets will discuss his future with Barcelona in the next season before making a decision. The winner of the World Cup and two European Cups with Spain opened the door to ending his career at another club.
“I think I can help and I’m helping,” said Busquets reported SPORT. “I still have a year left on my contract. I’ll take it one step at a time.”
“I realize I’m 33 now. I’m going to end the season and live the last year of my contract, with the World Cup, it will feel different to the break in between. I hope I can play in the World Cup.”
“After that, I will see how my situation is, what the coach wants from me, the club … and we will decide. I will not be a problem, really,” continued the Barcelona academy graduate.
“When my contract ends, maybe the coach and the club will want me to continue, but maybe I feel the moment has come. There are many things to consider. But now I feel comfortable and enjoy myself. We will try to finish the season with the best results in LaLiga and the Europa League,” straightforward Busquets.
