Business people mobilize for Serres Hydro-Tourville

SOLIDARITY. Touched by the story of the owners of Serres Hydro-Tourville who lost their entire harvest due to major mechanical breakdowns, business people from Drummondville decided to get together to raise money to help them.

The damage caused by two mechanical breakdowns due to the heating system forced Madeleine Houle and Normand Caya to throw 45,000 contaminated plants, seeing all of their income soar. The couple’s four children have launched a fundraising campaign to replace the oil furnace with a natural gas furnace and to support them financially in this ordeal.

“It came to get me. I was wondering how I could help them even though we currently don’t have a lot of financial means because of the pandemic. I had the idea of creating a support chain with business people from Drummondville, ”says the owner of La Muse restaurant, Julie Arel, who has been stepping up initiatives over the past year to give back to the community.

Companies are invited to make a financial contribution, which will go directly to Serres Hydro-Tourville. Interested in the cause, the owner of Letarte Transport, Louis Letarte, answered the call. “I’ve been buying vegetables from them for a long time. They have good products. They are endearing people, always in a good mood, he says. They have always worked hard and put their hearts into it. They have taken steps for new projects, which are still awaiting answers. They could have pulled the plogue, but instead decided to roll up their sleeves. It’s the least you can do to give them a hand. ”

The initiative quickly resonated with Martin Ruel, owner of the three IGA markets in Drummondville. “He’s one of my suppliers. It’s something to see what happened. When you lose a crop, it’s a lot of time and investment. Les Serres Tourville are at a pinnacle in their innovation and in what they do in terms of production. I think that for all those who are committed to local purchasing, it is important to participate in helping them recover from this unfortunate event, ”he says.

Julie Arel, Louis Letarte and Martin Ruel hope that their support chain will snowball with business people in Drummondville in order to give a financial boost to the owners of Serres Hydro-Tourville, a family business that produces local vegetables for about thirty years.

At the time of this writing, Madeleine Houle and Normand Caya were not aware of this initiative, which will be added to the fundraiser set up by their children.
