Bus Measles Virus Transmits Quickly, Is It Necessary to Do Isolation?

Jakarta – Measles sufferers should be treated in a special room or in isolation so they don’t infect or get infected with other viruses, explained the Chairperson of the National Commission on Animal Husbandry Immunization (Post-Immunization Follow-up Events) who is also a pediatrician and pediatric infectious and tropical disease consultant Prof. Dr. dr. Hinky Hindra Irawan Satari, SpA(K), M. TropPaed.

“Children who get measles have a higher infectious power than Covid. 10 times. He transmits it from the air, from saliva, from direct contact too. So the most effective thing is indeed isolation. Isolation means being treated in a separate room. More or less is needed for a week,” explained Hinky when met at Pondok Indah Hospital, South Jakarta, Saturday (11/2/2023).

Not only at home, if treated in a hospital, a person who has measles should also be treated in a separate room. In addition, health workers must also wear protective clothing to protect themselves.

“Even if you are hospitalized, you must be treated in a special room. In an isolation room. So that you don’t infect other children, as well as the health workers. The staff must also have vaccines and use personal protective equipment,” explained Hinky.

However, someone who is suffering from measles does not only have the potential to transmit it. Hinky said those who are infected with measles can also be exposed to other viruses. This is because the immune system of a person who has measles is low.

“Not only transmitting it, he is also at risk of contracting other diseases. Because he is in a position where his immune system is low,” said Hinky.

Hinky also explained that a person who is experiencing measles can still take a shower. So, bathing can cause measles rash to spread is just a myth.
