Burger King gets criticized for Twitch donation advertising | news

Netizens didn’t like the fact that Burger King fast food chain started advertising its establishments with donations on Twitch. This was reported by the portal PC Gamer.

Burger King used Streamlabs, which allows viewers to voice their messages on the web for a fee. The company made donations to streamers, and a synthesized voice read out promotional offers.

Some users have criticized this practice. Instead of signing advertising contracts, the company used donations of several dollars, which is much cheaper. It was considered “unethical” on social media, especially given that Burger King is one of the most expensive brands in the world.

Ross O’Donnovan, one of the streamers who received the donation, also complained that he was part of Burger King’s ad campaign and called it “nasty.” He noticed that the company’s video used videos of real streamers, but the gameplay recordings were replaced with fake ones from the Shutterstock exchange.

PC Gamer noted that streamers and their viewers initially did not attach much importance to advertising. On YouTube, a video with a cut from streams appeared in early August. Burger King began to be criticized after the campaign’s ad agency tweeted about it.

In addition, PC Gamer clarified that Burger King violated Streamlabs’ rules. According to the terms of the agreement, the service cannot be used for advertising.
