The municipal council in Burgas adopted the creation of a new directorate that will fight the demographic crisis – “Demographic policies, monitoring and coordination”. Mayor Dimitar Nikolov expressed the full mobilization of the municipality on the subject to the municipal councilors in today’s session of the local parliament.
„I want to draw attention to one element that was not touched upon in the speeches. For the first time in the structure of the municipality of Burgas, for the first time in the local government, a new directorate is formed and created, which is not subordinate to any deputy mayor. She reports directly to the mayor. This is a serious directorate, with serious weight and with great administrative power in terms of the coordination of other structures and units in the municipality. It is called “Demographic policies, monitoring and coordination”. I believe that Bulgaria is not in a demographic crisis, but in a demographic catastrophe. It is true that Burgas, compared to neighboring districts and regions, is slightly better in numbers, but politicians from the left and right can agree that drastic and bold action must be taken to save the Bulgarian nation” , he said
The mayor was categorical that every lev that will be invested in the territory of the municipality of Burgas, every regulation, every regulation, every disposal of municipal property, will be controlled by the Directorate of Demography.
„And everything we do will take into account how and what will be related to the improvement of the demographic situation in the municipality. Every young person, a family with a child who can be mechanically attracted from another region and be invited with good living conditions must be done. We cannot sharply influence the fertility of burgasliki, but we can invest funds, change regulations, structure the work of the administration in order to improve the demographic status. You will see much more funds in my reports directed in this direction. Not just fertility funding, where the budget will increase. Not only to stimulate students, not only for students to come from other regions, not only for disease prevention practices”Nikolov also stated.
He also said that Burgas will have a powerful program for children’s health care. Many funds will also be provided to eradicate infant mortality.

I looked at the rest of the structures of the other municipalities in the country and did not see another one. I think it is high time to show the importance and leading role of the local government.
