Coach André Breitenreiter sees collective defensive work as the key to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s current success in the Bundesliga. The Kraichgauers have conceded just eight goals this season, five of them in the first two matches.
Breitenreiter has an explanation for this. “It is a mixture of many aspects. Our transfers are absolute successes. We also managed to work on defensive behavior. Everyone plays very disciplined against the ball. He starts attacking in the storm,” said the 49-year-old before the Duel with Werder Bremen this Friday (20:30 / DAZN).
The TSG defense will be particularly challenged against the promoted team, as the promoted team is currently the second best striker in the league with 18 goals. This is mainly due to the strong offensive pair Niclas Füllkrug and Marvin Ducksch. Breitenreiter knows both of them well. He coached the filler pitcher in Hanover, Ducksch at SC Paderborn.
Due to his excellent performance, Füllkrug was recently discussed by numerous experts for the World Cup. Breitenreiter can also imagine a nomination for the 29-year-old. “He is a player with great qualities in the penalty area. This makes him an interesting personality, even for the World Cup,” said the TSG coach.
