Bundesliga: Salzburg gala performance at Austria Klagenfurt

FC Red Bull Salzburg continued their winning streak in the Bundesliga championship group and celebrated a 6-0 thrashing of Austria Klagenfurt in the 26th round.

As expected, the “Bulls” take control early in the game, but there aren’t any great chances to score for the time being. The Carinthians are initially focused on a concentrated defensive game and leave Salzburg little space to combine.

In the 27th minute, however, the Mozart city-dwellers got through for the first time, Noah Okafor (27th) put the ball on the right post after a pass from Junior Adamu.

Salzburg turns up after Gemicibasi exclusion

Two minutes later, Klagenfurt was outnumbered: Turgay Gemicibasi tackled Nicolas Capaldo in midfield, completely over-motivated, referee Harald Lechner showed the German-Turk straight red. It was Gemicibasis’ third exclusion this season.

The Mozart townsfolk then pick up the pace. Adamu (37th) runs alone towards Menzel, curves around the Klagenfurt goalkeeper, but puts the ball past the goal. Luka Sucic (42′) does it better, after strong dribbling by Nicolas Seiwald, he only has to push in – 1:0.

In the second half, the Jaissle squad kept pushing the gas and made it 2-0 in the 55th minute. Karim Adeyemi starts the game from the left, Adamu puts the following pass to the middle. The ball bounces back to Sucic (55th), who puts together the brace.

Klagenfurt falls apart

In the 68th minute, Maximilian Wöber also put himself on the top scorers list after a free kick, the defense chief netted a free-standing goal at the far corner.

Adeyemi (69′) hits the post a few moments later, and a minute later Maurits Kjaergaard heads in after a fantastic cross from Seiwald (70′) – 4:0.

After Ivan Saravanja’s handball in his own penalty area, Adeyemi (79′) converts a penalty kick. The German scores for the 16th time this season. Joker Benjamin Sesko (81st) makes the Salzburg gala in Klagenfurt perfect.

Salzburg powerful at the beginning, but harmless

Salzburg showed up with the same starting eleven as in the recent 2-1 win against Rapid. The star striker Adeyemi, who was courted by Dortmund, was only on the bench again at the beginning, with Junior Adamu trying to take his place.

As expected, Salzburg got off to a good start against a low-lying opponent, initially coming up with a harmless Adamu-Köpfler, which goalkeeper Phillip Menzel easily tamed (5′) and Nicolas Capaldo’s long-range shot over the goal (8′).

A blocked attempt by Christopher Cvetko as a result of a stab in the penalty area (9th) triggered the purple need for security, and Austria now presented themselves a little more aggressively.

Gemicibasi is sent off with a red card

In the 30th minute it was a bit too aggressive, Gemicibasi fouled the upturning Capaldo in midfield as unnecessarily as brutally and was red for it. For the third time this season (twice red, once yellow-red) the German had to leave early Place.

However, one or the other Klagenfurt needle prick was inevitable, for example Wöber and Oumar Solet had to clear Florian Jaritz in dire need (36th).

Of course, Salzburg’s dominance could not be shaken. A minute later, Adamu rounded Menzel after an unsuccessful back pass from Michael Blauensteiner, but only hit the side netting.

Previously, Blauensteiner had already deflected an Adamu attempt on his own pole (26th). Shortly before the break, however, the time had come and the necessary precision was achieved: Sucic shot in from a few meters after nice preliminary work by Nicolas Seiwald to make it 1-0.

Salzburg turns up the heat in the second half of the game

As expected, the favorites did not let the 21st win of the season be taken away after the change of sides. Markus Pink forced Salzburg goalie Philipp Köhn to make a save (49′), but that was it.

After a shot from the post by Adeyemi, Sucic stole from a few meters and marked the preliminary decision with his first league brace.

But Salzburg wasn’t content with that: Wöber effortlessly steered a Sucic free-kick extended by Adeyemi into the goal to make it 3-0, only around two minutes later “Joker” Kjaergaard headed in.

In between, Adeyemi was unlucky with a roll from the inside to the outside bar, the ball went back into the field. In the finish, Adeyemi from a penalty after Ivan Saravanja’s handball with his first second goal in 2022 and Sesko ensured the victory.
