Bundesliga: Players are asked to start training

The last games in the upper house were on March 8th, according to the current status, the championship is paused due to the coronavirus pandemic, at least until the beginning of May. In order to be prepared for a new start, a certain training lead time is necessary, which is why, according to VdF chairman Gernot Zirngast, the first units could ideally begin immediately after Easter.

The ex-Bundesliga kicker has a model in mind like in parts of Germany, where people practice in small groups without physical contact. “We are of course adhering to government regulations on this matter, but we want to be prepared if we get the green light,” said APA’s Zirngast.

Sports Minister Werner Kogler gave cautiously positive signals in this regard. “That does not sound implausible,” said the Vice Chancellor at a press conference on Saturday when asked about football training in small groups, such as those already practiced in Germany. “We like to look at that.”

The VdF survey should be evaluated by the middle of next week, according to Zirngast, the first findings are already available. “The tendency is that the players want to end the championship in a sporting way and want to start training as quickly as possible, but only if the situation permits and the circumstances fit.”

Quarantine hotels are not currently planned

According to Zirngast in Austria, there are currently no plans like in England and Germany, where players want to accommodate players in their own quarantine hotels in order to finalize the championship. “Anything is possible, but nothing is being considered at the moment. It depends on the overall development and should be discussed with the players. “
