Bundesliga: First clubs start countdown to the season

While champions Red Bull Salzburg are still taking their time, “runner-up” Sturm Graz is already going full throttle again. Like SCR Altach, SV Ried and TSV Hartberg, the Styrians will start training for the 2022/23 season on Monday, which will open with the first round of the ÖFB Cup (July 15th to 17th). A week later (July 22nd to 24th) the championship kicks off.

Salzburg begin their preparations on Wednesday, one day after promoted Austria Lustenau, with performance tests before head coach Matthias Jaissle holds the first team training session on Thursday. Rapid have their first practice session with the ball and their previous signings on Wednesday. Wolfsberger AC, Austria Klagenfurt, WSG Tirol and Austria Wien are the last clubs to start the preparations on Monday in a week on June 20th, which all twelve clubs in Austria are holding.

Attractive test matches

In any case, the fans will be able to see some attractive friendlies in the summer. Salzburg welcomes the two top Dutch clubs Feyenoord Rotterdam with ÖFB team player Gernot Trauner (July 9th in Anif) and champions Ajax Amsterdam (July 19th in Saalfelden). The Greek champion Olympiacos Piraeus is also a preparatory opponent for the “bulls”.

Austria Klagenfurt hosts Ralph Hasenhüttl’s FC Southampton at the Wörthersee Stadium on July 18th. LASK will test in Pasching on July 9 against Europa League winner Eintracht Frankfurt, who is coached by former LASK coach Oliver Glasner. Newly promoted Austria Lustenau will play their final friendly on July 8th in Singen against 1. FC Köln.
