After the excitement about the announced reform process for the Federal Army – including a reduction in military national defense to a minimum – and the accompanying criticism of Minister Tanner herself, the opposition had already asked Tanner to comment on Friday and again at the weekend in plenary. “We are very happy to go there,” it said on Sunday from the Ministry of Defense – even if there was surprise at the surprise about Tanner’s plans. “It is all in the government program,” said the spokesman.

The special session of the National Council on Tuesday actually serves to bring about the planned reduction in VAT in the catering, media and cultural sectors. Parliament spokesman Karl-Heinz Grundböck announced on Sunday that if the minister wanted to make a statement, it would of course be on the agenda.
The National Security Council, which was called for by both the opposition and Tanner, was currently looking for an appointment. This is currently being coordinated with the Federal Chancellor, the spokesman reported.
The Ministry of Defense denied that the vortex surrounding the Federal Army was used as a “smoke grenade” to distract from the statements made by Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and Finance Minister Gernot Blümel (both ÖVP) in the Ibiza-U Committee. It was always planned that the discussion process should start this week, it said.
