Bulgaria is the country in the European Union with the largest reduction in greenhouse gases. This is announced on its website today by the European statistical office Eurostat.

The largest reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union was recorded in Bulgaria -15.2 percent. Greenhouse gas emissions released by the EU economy amounted to 941 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in the first quarter of 2023 ., which is a decrease of 2.9 percent compared to the same quarter of 2022 (969 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent).

The information comes from the data on the quarterly estimates of greenhouse gas emissions by economic activities, published today by Eurostat.

Quarterly estimates of greenhouse gas emissions complement quarterly socio-economic data such as GDP or employment, European statistics said.

In the first quarter of 2023, the economic sectors that are the source of the most greenhouse gas emissions are “households” (24 percent), “manufacturing” (20 percent), “electricity supply, gas supply” (19 percent), “agriculture ” (13 percent), followed by “transportation and storage” (10 percent).

Greenhouse gas emissions in the first quarter of 2023 decreased in almost all EU countries compared to the first quarter of 2022, except Ireland (+9.1 percent), Latvia (+7.5 percent), Slovakia (+1.9 percent), Denmark (+1.7 percent), Sweden (+1.6 percent) and Finland (0.3 percent).
