(CNN Spanish) – President Nayib Bukele announced a domicile quarantine throughout the national territory for 30 days from this Saturday night.
However, the president explained that there will be exceptions: “One person per family will be able to move,” Bukele explained, so that they can supply food to the home or they can buy the family’s medicines.
Employees of restaurants, public transport, gas stations, security companies, private clinics, the financial system, hospitals, veterinarians, the media, deputies, the Supreme Court of Justice and public employees directly linked to emergency care will be able to continue working, according to the authorities.
Agriculture and livestock can also continue operating because “we need to guarantee food security,” Bukele said. “It is the most difficult decision I have made in my life, I know it will generate discomfort, discomfort,” he added.
According to the authorities, the person who does not comply with the home quarantine will be detained and taken to a containment center for 30 days.
To alleviate the economic situation, the Government announced that households that consume less than 150 kilowatts of electrical energy per month will receive a transfer of US $ 300. “We are talking about 75% of the population that will benefit,” Bukele explained.
That will represent, according to the Government, an investment per month of US $ 450 million in financial support.
These benefits are added to the suspension of payments of basic services for three months and mortgage, capital or entrepreneurship loans for those directly affected by the emergency, without causing delay or affecting the credit record.
During the announcement on the national radio and television network, the president announced that the results of 102 tests were negative; Among those were three suspected cases.
Until this Saturday El Salvador registers three confirmed cases of coronavirus.
