Buizingen train disaster process restarted: public prosecutor’s office asks for a fine of half a million euros from Infrabel

Today all day the civil parties take the floor (lawyers of the victims, and some of the victims themselves). Only tomorrow would the pleas of the defendant follow (in this Infrabel). After a brief report from the judge, the public prosecutor’s office already had the floor. They are claiming an effective fine of 540,000 euros, last year’s judgment demanded 550,000 euros from Infrabel, half of which with postponement (ie 275,000 euros effective).

The trial takes place in the Palais de Justice in Brussels, through corona people are diverted to the large hall of the Court of Cassation. The trial will take three days, after which the court will consider the matter. A judgment will not follow until later, but only appeal in cassation is still possible (which focuses on procedural errors, not on the content).
