Bugatti Centodieci caught for the first time during tests at the Nürburgring

Summer 2019 feels like it’s decades away. Almost another era. But hey, it wasn’t even two years ago. Or to put it another way: It’s been an eternity two years since Bugatti presented the Centodieci in Pebble Beach and since then – well – not so much has happened.

The homage to the EB110 (at the same time the car is a gift for the brand’s 100th anniversary) will not reach illustrious customers before 2022. The prototype production started in February of this year. However, there are now Erlkönig pictures of the Centodieci for the first time, which show the souped-up Chiron during tests on the Nordschleife.

The prototype pictures don’t show anything we haven’t already seen. The oversized version of the hypercar shows all the signs of the new Bugatti design language, but the influences of the legendary EB110 are clearly visible. At the front, for example, with the much smaller horseshoe grill, which is each flanked by three-part air inlets.

Instead of the usual C-shaped B-pillar, we see five diamond-shaped air inlets. They supply the most powerful expansion stage of the 8.0-liter quadturbo W16 with air. The similarities with the EB110 end at the rear. We see separate taillights and two exhaust tailpipes stacked on top of each other on each side.

The engine is visible under glass and produces an absurd 1,600 hp. According to Bugatti, the Centodieci does the 0-100 km / h in 2.3 seconds, the 0-200 km / h in 6.1 seconds and the 0-300 km / h in 13.1 seconds. The top speed is limited to 380 km / h. A relatively small weight reduction of 20 kilos also contributes to the increase in performance, which is achieved, among other things, by lightweight windshield wipers and special side mirrors.

Although the Centodieci costs at least 8 million euros before taxes, the ten intended copies have of course long been sold. Cristiano Ronaldo treated himself to one of them for last year’s championship with Juventus Turin. In a good year he and the other nine lucky ones should get their car.
