Brussels sanctions for Navalny poisoning hit leaders around Putin | Abroad

There are no secret agents on the sanction list, such as after the poisoning of the former double agent Sergej Skripal in England. This time, the EU is punishing the head of the internal intelligence agency FSB, the right-hand man of Putin’s chief of staff, the head of the Kremlin’s interior policy, two deputy ministers of defense and Putin’s representative in Siberia. The European assets of the six are frozen and they no longer enter the EU.

Russia denies it has anything to do with the Navalni assassination attempt. But the use of a nerve poison that only Russian security services can access cannot have gone outside Russia, the EU thinks.

Treatment Germany

Navalni became very ill on a domestic flight over Siberia in August. He was eventually allowed to go to Germany to be treated there. There, experts from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), among others, established that the politician had been poisoned with a prohibited nerve poison.

Prigozhin is not blamed for poisoning Navalni, but he is being punished for violating the arms embargo on Libya. The businessman, who became known as ‘Putin’s cook’, leads a private army of ‘security guards’, among other things. He will also receive an entry ban and his assets will be frozen.
