BRS leader Kavita did not appear before ED citing pending petition in Supreme Court

New Delhi. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K. Kavita did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday in a money laundering case related to the Delhi Excise Policy, citing a pending petition in the Supreme Court. In a petition pending in the Supreme Court, he has sought protection from arrest, challenging the summons issued by the ED. Member of the Telangana Legislative Council and Chief Minister of the state K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kavita sent her authorized representative (an office bearer of BRS) who provided a six page report of her transactions, bank statements, personal and business details to the investigating officer of the case.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear on March 24 Kavita’s plea challenging the ED’s summons in the case and seeking protection from arrest. Kavita (44) was first questioned in this case on March 11, after which she was asked to appear again on March 16. In a letter sent to the ED, Kavita said that since the summons did not say that she needed to appear in person, she was sending her ‘authorised representative’. He wrote, ‘I humbly request you that the proceedings are pending before the Supreme Court, therefore its instructions should be awaited before taking any action regarding the summons.’
