NEW YORK – At least a dozen people were seriously injured after the garbage chute inside a Brooklyn building caught fire overnight, city officials said.
The first 9-1-1 call came to the FDNY shortly after 11:00 p.m. Saturday about a fire in the FDNY building. Street of the Bridgethe department said. More units have arrived Farragut Housesa NYCHA complex in downtown Brooklyn in minutes.
In addition to the 12 people seriously injured, six others suffered minor injuries, FDNY officials said. A firefighter was also injured, bringing the total count to 19.
It wasn’t immediately clear how everyone was injured or how the fire started.
The investigation is ongoing.
