PALERMO, Italy (AP) — Lucia Bronzetti reached her first WTA Tour final as she bounced back to beat Italy’s Jasmine Paolini 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the Palermo Open on Saturday.
Paolini double faulted to give Bronzetti a 5-3 lead in the third set and a chance to serve out the match. Bronzetti took the last point 40-0.
Bronzetti, ranked 70th in the world, did not expect to go this far.
“If they had told me at the beginning of the week, I would not have believed it,” he said.
Sunday’s final will pit Bronzetti and the winner of the other semi-final between fourth-seeded Sara Sorribes Tormo and sixth-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu on the clay court at the Country Time Club.
