bronze for Tamberi in the high jump

The Olympic champion closes third behind the Korean Woo and the Swiss Gasch with the measure of 2.31 meters: “It was madness to be there”

On the third and final day of competitions of the Indoor Athletics World Championships to Belgrade, Gianmarco Tamberi wins the bronze medal in the high jump. The Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020, in his first real appearance of the season, closes his performance at 2.31m, failing to jump the 2.34 mark. “Gimbo” still climbs on the podium behind the Korean Woo and the Swiss Gasch, for a very good result after a long stop.

Athletics, indoor world championships: Marcell Jacobs gold and European record in 60 meters

He had basically pulled the plug after Tokyo 2020, having practically never competed since the beginning of the year, while intensifying his training in the last period. Gianmarco Tamberi thus returns to Belgrade on the occasion of the Indoor Athletics World Championships and here he manages to take home an excellent bronze medal. Also taking advantage of the absence of many excellent interpreters of the specialty, in a phase in which the condition cannot be optimal, “Gimbo” returns very close to the performances of that extraordinary Japanese Olympics, closing no more than 2.31 meters.

Another small masterpiece for Tamberi who, with a couple of weeks of training after a long stop, is still going to take a world medal tied with the New Zealander Hamish Kerr. Third step of the podium, therefore. Korean Sanghyeok Woo is gold with 2.34, while silver goes to the surprising Swiss Loïc Gasch with 2.31.

After the gold medal of Marcell Jacobs yesterday, the fantastic blue couple that characterized that wonderful Sunday 1st August 2021 never ceases to excite us.

“IT WAS MADNESS TO BE THERE, HAPPY FOR THE BRONZE”
“The bronze was the goal, I am pleased because taking a medal in a high-level context is worth more than winning with a mediocre measure. I’m satisfied, it was a great challenge and in any case we took home a world bronze”. Gianmarco Tamberi said this when commenting on his third place in the high jump at the Indoor World Championships in Belgrade. “It was a gamble to come, a madness, but it’s the things I like. It’s those things that make the difference and I shiver when you tell them,” added the blue.
