Briton shot dead because hunter mistakes him for wild boar

“The accident happened when a group of men were hunting wild boars,” a source told the British newspaper Metro about the 25-year-old victim, Morgan Keane. “He was chopping wood outside his house when a stray bullet hit him.”

The incident happened in the remote French town of La Garrigue, north of Toulouse. A 33-year-old Frenchman has been arrested and is suspected of manslaughter.

‘Terrible’

The emergency services were quickly on the spot, but to no avail. The hunter thinks it is ‘terrible what happened’, says the source. He was in a sober condition and in possession of a hunting license.

A protest walk was organized in response to the incident. “The hunting has to stop here,” a woman told the Daily Mail.

Out of range

In the Netherlands, the hunt for wild boars is thwarted by the hustle and bustle in the forest. Because many people visit the forests in Corona time, the pigs are frightened by the crowds and dive deep. That way they are out of reach of the hunters.
