It was found that the mutation of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) originating in the UK has a 30% higher mortality rate as well as transmission power than the existing virus.
According to the BBC on the 22nd (local time), British Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a press conference in response to Corona 19 and made this announcement. “It seems to be associated with a higher level of fatality as well as the faster spread of the mutant virus,” said Prime Minister Johnson.
It has been pointed out several times that mutations originating in the UK have a higher transmission power than existing viruses. However, this is the first time that even the fatality rate is higher. In fact, a study by scientists from the UK’s New Respiratory Virus Threat Advisory Group (NERVTAG) found that the mutant virus could cause about 30% more deaths.
Sir Patrick Balances, the UK government’s top scientific advisor, said, “10 out of 1,000 patients with 60-year-old Corona 19 have died from the existing virus. The mutant virus has increased to 13 people.” He added that “more analysis is needed for clear verification.”
Fortunately, the mutant virus responds to the Pfizer and AstraZeneca corona vaccine. “The currently developed COVID-19 vaccine seems to be effective against a mutant virus originating in the UK,” said Lord Balance.
