British laboratory GABA Labs develops a synthetic analogue of Alcarelle alcohol. It provides a relaxing effect without hangover or other side effects.
Alcarelle is a tasteless substance that can be added to other drinks – alcoholic or non-alcoholic – to enhance their intoxicating effect without negative side effects.
“We know where in the brain alcohol has its good and bad effects, and which receptors are involved. You can influence the parts of the brain you want,” said Dr. David Nutt
The creators hope that the product will go on sale by 2026. It has been in development for quite some time, but the regulatory approval process has been very slow.
