British Experts Reveal New Symptoms of Covid Starting at 5 Years Old

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Researchers from the Imperial College London identified new symptoms as a result of infection Covid-19. Apart from losing the sense of taste and smell, there are at least four new symptoms that can be categorized to identify Covid-19 transmission.

Research conducted on approximately one million citizens in the UK during the period June 2020 to January 2021, researchers found that symptoms such as loss of appetite, muscle aches, chills, and headaches can be identified as new symptoms of covid-19 transmission.

The study also showed that these symptoms varied widely depending on age. In the report, it was found that headaches were most commonly reported in children and adolescents aged 5-17 years.

REACT Research Program Director Professor Paul Elliot, as reported by Forbes, said the findings of new symptoms also found that there were still many people who did not take tests because the symptoms they experienced did not match the symptoms of Covid-19 transmission mentioned later.

“Because their symptoms don’t match those used in current public health guidelines,” said Eliot.

In Britain, he said, the guidelines were very focused on the classic symptoms of the Covid-19 virus. It is on this basis that the researchers estimated that an additional 25 percent of symptomatic cases could be identified if testing was extended to include new symptoms as signs of contracting the virus.

Even so, this study also raises ambiguity, because many questions arise related to research on similar diseases. Because in their research these researchers did not include this.

Dr Tom Wingfield, Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Physician at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in England Because he said, muscle pain, chills and loss of appetite can be found in the symptoms of other diseases such as flu, rhinovirus, and causes to cause the common cold.

“We don’t know from REACT to report whether people who get tested for Covid-19 had more than one infection at the time of testing. This is relevant given the frequency of flu, rhinovirus and other viruses during winter,” he said.
