At the Grootenhoek nursing home in Hellevoetsluis, two infections with the British variant of the corona virus have come to light thanks to a routine sample. The patients tested positive for the virus on January 6. On Tuesday it became clear that it was the more contagious, British variant.

RIVM started an investigation together with Maasstad Hospital after an outbreak occurred in the Grootenhoek nursing home shortly before Christmas. The virus broke out among patients with dementia. The nursing home says it immediately took measures at the time. In a press release, the umbrella care organization Careyn in Schiedam writes that in consultation with the GGD it has been decided that no additional measures are now required.
Outbreak
The nursing home has three wards for patients with dementia. In December a total of 46 people stayed in those wards. Ultimately, 44 patients and 17 employees were infected. Since last Thursday, no new infections have been detected among the residents in the wards, Careyn says.
On January 15, of every 100 corona infections, 94 were with the classic variant and 6 with the British variant.
