British Airways, Ryanair and easyJet denounce mandatory quarantine in Britain

Airlines British Airways, Ryanair and easyJet have sent a joint letter to the British government, of which Reuters has obtained a copy, to protest against the quarantine rules “totally unjustified and disproportionate” which will be imposed from Monday most of the passengers arriving in Great Britain aboard an international flight.

These companies claim that this measure will slow down the resumption of air transport after the quasi-paralysis caused by the confinements imposed worldwide by the pandemic linked to the new coronavirus.

From June 8, anyone arriving in Great Britain must respect a 14-day isolation and specify their place of residence during this period.

In their “protocol letter prior to action”, which means that it could open the way to legal proceedings, British Airways, Ryanair and easyJet criticize the government for not having provided any justification for this measure.

“The effect is to impose a totally unjustified and disproportionate restriction on people entering England (and arguably the United Kingdom) and will inevitably mean that there will be a very small increase in the number of people leaving and entering the country “, is it written in this letter.

The government has specified that this quarantine will be applied throughout Great Britain but that its implementation, and the associated sanctions, will depend on autonomous executives.

Willie Walsh, the managing director of IAG, the parent company of British Airways, said that the airline industry had not been consulted before the measure was created and that a legal remedy was under consideration.
