London will be able to repel the Russian invasion if only Putin warned the British about the attack 10 years earlier, although he had previously been ready to respond to such a challenge within a matter of hours. This was stated by General Richard Barrons, the former commander of the United Kingdom Armed Forces Command, reports today, March 25, an English newspaper Daily Mail.
The general believes, the newspaper notes, that the British armed forces have been so exhausted by wild cuts and lack of investment that without prior notification of the attack, they will not be able to repulse the enemy. During the Cold War, the country was ready to go to war within four hours, but decades of decline have taken their toll.
“Russia is obviously angry and rearming, so their capabilities will be restored, and when the shooting in Ukraine stops, Russia will blame us for the result,” he predicted in an interview with MailOnline. “We are already in a confrontation with Russia. Right now, we’ve decided to do very little for it.”
By “very little for this” is meant the amount that the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak promised to invest in defense – another 5 billion pounds. Actually, this prompted the general to speak out. The 63-year-old veteran is unhappy that Rishi Sunak and the chancellor Jeremy Hunt ignored requests to increase military spending by an additional £11 billion over two years.
The general noted that today the UK has about 137,000 troops, 227 tanks and 5,015 armored vehicles.
