In a press release sent to our editorial staff, the vigilance committee of the Brioude hospital warns of “an ongoing health disaster” and “the shortage of doctors”.
Its representatives noted that “our access to quality and local health care is less and less assured despite the selflessness of the staff. The public hospital is disintegrating with, everywhere, closures of beds, services, in particular emergency and SMUR but also in psychiatry, surgery, medicine, follow-up care… ”If the public hospital of Brioude “Is in a more favorable situation than other establishments”, the vigilance committee nonetheless recommends two actions: consolidating and developing the hospital’s activities in order to ensure maximum quality care service; take into account the requests of hospital staff exhausted by two years of intense work linked to the Covid and its consequences.
Proposed measures
Regarding the shortage of doctors, there are only nine GPs left in Brioude “while there should be fourteen, especially since some of them do not work full time”. The direct consequence is that patients have difficulty getting an appointment quickly. Another observation: there is no longer any cardiologist, ophthalmologist or psychiatrist providing consultations in the city. The elected representatives of the Community of communes of Brioude Sud Auvergne have proposed several avenues: better coordination of health professionals, rotation between town and hospital doctors to provide on-call duty in the evening, provision of a consultation office in town for interns at the end of the internship.
The vigilance committee believes that “the implementation of these measures can improve what already exists” but thinks “that it is necessary to think about a long-term strategy”. According to him, this could involve the creation of a health center backed by the hospital and a liberal health center.
All these subjects will be at the heart of the discussions of the general assembly of the vigilance committee of the public hospital of Brioude, this Friday, December 10, at 6 p.m., Salle Allier, at the Maison de l’Instruction.
