Deutsche Bahn has completed work on the Marktplatz S-Bahn station. The redesign cost 800,000 euros.

Please pay attention to the posting timetable “is written in white letters on a blue background on the large video cube at the S-Bahn station Marktplatz. The display of the departure times at the Offenbach traffic junction at the Marktplatz entrance is still not working. This technical problem should soon be resolved by Deutsche Bahn. On Thursday, the company announced that it had completed the work on the so-called future train station.

Finally, large-format screens were installed at the entrance on the side of the town hall. The display sizes and information content on the monitors will change over the next few weeks, as the displays are initially running in test operation, the railway announced. The company invested 800,000 euros in redesigning the S-Bahn station to make it brighter, more inviting and clearer. That succeeded.

Escalators work

Modern furniture for sitting, leaning and standing as well as new rubbish bins and showcases for passenger information were set up. Colorful windows have been inserted into the glass roof, and the stairwells have also been colored. In addition, the entire underground station was painted. Colorful signposts were placed at all exits. And the most important thing: escalators and elevators work. That was a problem for years.

“The Offenbach Marktplatz S-Bahn station is one of 16 stations of the future in Germany where DB is testing new ideas and concepts to make its stations more attractive. What has proven itself should also be implemented at other train stations with similar requirements, ”says Stefan Schwinn, who is responsible for the project as the head of the Central regional division at DB Station und Service AG.

That also means more conformity instead of individuality. Where there used to be Turkish sesame rings or Pakistani vegetable bags, there is now a branch of the Ditsch bakery chain and a Deutsche Bahn service store.
