Brexit and Freeports: free ports for Britain’s economy

How does the UK want to flourish after leaving the EU? One of the few concrete projects is the establishment of free ports. The city of Southampton has high hopes for it. Too much?

It has been almost five years to the day since the British voted for Brexit in June 2016. Far less clear than the result of the referendum is what the UK specifically needs to leave the EU for. To regain control, that was the battle cry of the hardliners, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson – for example to conclude their own trade agreements and stop the free movement of people. In addition, there has never been a list of specific policy goals London would like to achieve after regaining full control.
