“The Mummy” has made him a mega star since 1999: Brendan Fraser (53) played the fearless adventurer Rick O’Connell in three films and thus became the absolute darling of the public. As part of a “Variety” story about the creation of his new movie “The Whale”, he has now also talked about a possible revival of “The Mummy” series. Consequently, Fraser would be quite open to returning to his signature role as Rick O’Connell and shooting a fourth part.

Fraser says he doesn’t know how a sequel in the series would “work”. “But I’d be open if anyone had the right ideas.” She probably wouldn’t fail because of his abilities, at least if Stephen Sommers directed again. Variety also quotes Sommers saying why he hired Fraser to star in The Mummy: “He could throw punches, but he also knew how to take punches. He had a great sense of humor.”

Fraser’s first Oscar?

In 2017, “The Mummy” with Tom Cruise was rebooted and Brendan Fraser also talked about it with “Variety”. He wasn’t completely happy with the reboot: “It was too much of a true horror movie. ‘The Mummy’ is supposed to provide chills, but not be as scary and creepy.” Most importantly, Fraser lost the “fun” in the remake. However, he admits how difficult it is to make such a film, after all he has already tried it himself three times.

However, another project is currently in the foreground for Fraser. In the drama “The Whale”, Fraser plays a 700-pound man who struggles to reconnect with his daughter. Darren Aronofsky’s film premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September; many critics and experts believe that Fraser’s performance stands a good chance of winning an Oscar. It is not yet known when “The Whale” will be shown in theaters.
