Bremen: With these mini robots, Bremen brings sick children into class

As of: November 20, 2023 11:03 a.m

Bremen has purchased 16 robots that will be used to help seriously ill children attend classes. It is the first federal state in which the robots are being used on a larger scale.

In the state of Bremen, seriously ill children and young people will in future be able to follow school lessons with the help of a mini robot. According to its own information, the education department has purchased 16 of these so-called avatars. They can now be borrowed from schools in Bremen and Bremerhaven.

Robots cost 3,500 euros each

The support is aimed at children and young people who, for example, have to spend a long time in hospital. Using their school iPads, they can control the mini robot in the classroom, follow lessons and speak up themselves. According to the education department, Bremen is the first federal state to use these mini robots on a large scale.

Each robot costs Bremen 3,500 euros, the education department said. Whether more robots are purchased depends on further practical experience “and largely on the budget,” said Education Senator Sascha Aulepp (SPD).
