“Breathtaking Race: Jeffrey Buis Secures Emotional Victory for MTM Kawasaki in Barcelona”

At the end of a breathtaking race, Jeffrey Buis (MTM Kawasaki), 2020 WorldSSP300 Champion, took his first victory since returning to the category this year. He finished just 0.052s ahead of his closest pursuer and secured an emotional win for both him and the MTM Kawasaki team in Barcelona.

BACK TO THE TOP: Buis finds his way back to victory

Buis initially got off to a good start and extended his lead to more than a second on the first lap, but the chasing group quickly made up for it. Buis lost control of hostilities on the fourth pass, while the leading group consisted of 21 pilots. Although pushed back to eighth, Buis regained the lead on the final lap to win his first race since returning to WorldSSP300. He finished 0.052s ahead of Samuel Di Sora (ProDina Kawasaki Racing). Mirko Gennai (Team BrCorse) completed the podium after making an epic comeback from 19th place.

The win sees Buis become the biggest winner of all time in WorldSSP300 with eight wins in total. This is the first MTM Kawasaki victory since the late Victor Steeman won here last year. Moreover, it is the 50th victory for Kawasaki in WorldSSP300, the first manufacturer to reach this milestone.

REVENGE: From last to fifth place…

Several comebacks were recorded, notably that of the Championship leader, Petr Svoboda (Fusport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki), who finished in fourth place despite being out of the points for most of the race. . Humberto Maier (Yamaha MS Racing / AD78 Latin America Team), although poleman in Tissot-Superpole, had to start from the back of the grid due to a sanction for irresponsible driving during FP1. Dirk Geiger (Freudenberg KTM – Paligo Racing) finished sixth after leading the race from start to finish.

THE TOP 10: One second separates the top 10

Daniel Mogeda (Kawasaki GP Project) finished seventh ahead of Matteo Vannucci (AG Motorsport Italia Yamaha). Vannucci was one of many drivers who led the race. Jose Luis Perez Gonzalez (Accolade Smrz Racing BGR) managed to elude a Long Lap imposed on him for irresponsible driving during Superpole, to take ninth place ahead of Indonesian Galang Hendra Pratama (Sublime Racing by MS Racing) who scored points for his return to the Championship.

IN THE POINTS…

Enzo Valentim (Yamaha MS Racing/AD78 Latin America Team) also had to observe a Long Lap, but he finished in 11th place, just 0.063s ahead of Julio Garcia (Team Flembbo – PI Performances). Garcia leads a trio of Spanish drivers ranked in the points: Jose Manuel Osuna Saez (Deza-Box 77 Racing Team), 13th, and Yeray Saiz Marquez (Accolade Smrz Racing BGR), 14th. Troy Alberto (Fusport – RT Motorsport by SKM – Kawasaki) closed the points gate.

TO NOTE…

It was a difficult day for Ruben Bijman (Arco Motor University Team). He apparently stalled on the grid as the lights went out and, despite being relegated to last place, he was able to get back on track. Nevertheless, he was later sanctioned with a double Long Lap for stolen start. He eventually placed 20th. Juan Pablo Uriostegui (Team#109 Kawasaki) gave up on lap six at turn 5, following a collision with wildcard Unai Calatayud (Arco Motor University Team); Calatayud was able to resume racing. Lennox Lehmann (Freudenberg KTM – Paligo Racing) retired in the next loop. Raffaele Tragni (AG Motorsport Italia Yamaha) crashed at Turn 3 (an incident under investigation by the FIM WorldSBK Stewards).

On lap 10 out of 12, a collision between six riders took place, involving Kevin Sabatucci (Team Flembbo – PI Performances), Fenton Seabright (Kawasaki GP Project), Loris Veneman (MTM Kawasaki), Gabriele Mastroluca (Arco Motor University Team), Alessandro Zanca (Team#109 Kawasaki) and Marco Gaggi (Team BrCorse). All six retired and the incident will be reviewed by the Stewards.
