Breaking Bad Star Bryan Cranston Plans to Take a Break from Acting in 2026 to Prioritize Personal Life

In a recent interview with British GQ, Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston revealed that he plans to retire from his acting career and professional pursuits from 2026, for at least six months. , in order to spend more time with his wife, Robin.

“I want to change the paradigm once again,” he told the publication. “For the past 24 years, Robin has lived by my side. She was the one with me, the wife of a celebrity. His life had to adapt to mine. She has benefited immensely, but we are out of balance. I want to restore that balance. She deserves it. »

His plan is to move to a foreign country and spend time relaxing, gardening, and cooking. “I want to live this experience,” he added. “I want to go on day trips, have a fire in the fireplace, drink wine with new friends and not read scripts. »

He clarified that this break would truly be a break, and that he would not be thinking about work during this time. “I’m not going to think about that. I will not answer the phone,” he said.

Cranston later posted a message on Instagram to clarify his remarks, after incorrect articles about his “total retirement” circulated online.

He wrote: “Hi everyone, I hope this little message finds you well. News came out that wasn’t entirely clear…even to me. So I wanted to rectify things. I am not retiring. »

“What I’m going to do is hit the pause button for a year after I turn 70 in 2026. My God, 70! I’m not even sure I know exactly what ‘taking a break’ means, but right now I think it means that taking a year off is going to do several things. »

“First, it will allow me to spend time with Robin (my wonderful wife of 34 years now) in a way that I haven’t been able to in the past 25 years…not as a celebrity wife. , but as a married couple entering — let’s be honest — our final years, with new hopes, new goals, and new experiences. »

“Secondly, it will allow me to do a kind of ‘reset’ in my career. I had an amazing experience for over two decades – playing characters on TV, in movies and on stage that I wouldn’t have even dared to dream of…until it became a reality. I couldn’t be more grateful for such opportunities. That said, I have

the impression of starting to run out of fresh ideas to play the characters that are offered to me. Exploring a richer life will therefore give me the chance to renew my soul and prepare myself in a more authentic way for the roles that may be offered to me. »

“I’m going to disconnect from social media, leave the business rush behind and dive into the classics of literature that I always promised myself I would read but never read… But before that, I have some unfinished business . »

“There are several movies coming out soon that I’m very proud of, I’m producing a few TV stories that I really love, and I’m focused on getting back to Broadway – but this time in a new way…but I’m will say more later. For now, let me just express my deepest gratitude to all of you who have been incredibly kind and generous in taking the time to read my posts and follow my career. I never take my good fortune for granted. I’m blessed, and my God, I know it. I wish you all the best…and I’ll see you down the road. »

Earlier this year, Cranston said a revival of the Malcolm in the Middle series would only happen if a “really good idea” was present.

Cranston said he was “interested” in reprising the role of Hal. However, he explained that series creator Linwood Boomer wouldn’t do it just so the team could make money.

In an interview, Cranston said: “I can tell you Linwood Boomer, the creator of Malcolm in the Middle, is interested in developing an idea for a rebooted series or movie..

“He will only do it if there is a very, very good idea. He won’t just do it for everyone to earn a salary. And I’m not interested in that either. »

Speaking about how a reboot of Malcolm in the Middle might work, Cranston added, “I’m interested in what happened next. It’s been 20 years since we saw Malcolm! What is the family doing now? »
