Breakdown at ICA – throughout the country
Sweden’s ICA stores have suffered extensive problems on Thursday.
Some kind of breakdown has hit the store chain during the morning hours.
The problem seems to be of considerable magnitude and has the consequence that no customers can pay by card at the till.
ICA Banken confirms this on its Facebook page.
– Right now it is a problem to pay with all banks’ cards in ICA stores, writes the chain.
All of the chain’s stores throughout the country have the same problem.
“Hopeless!”
The problem extends beyond the ICA stores.
Apoteket Hjärtat, which is part of the same group, is also affected.
There is currently no forecast as to when it will be possible to pay by card again.
– Work is underway to try to resolve this, adds ICA Banken.
The sudden breakdown has created great frustration among the chain’s customers.
– Thanks for the info. Then I avoid shopping at Ica today with, comments a person in the company’s post.

Swish works
Others are more understanding of the problem.
– Thanks. Great with quick info.
– Currently standing in line at Ica Maxi Högsbo, but staff informs us in a good way.
According to ICA Banken, swish works as a means of payment in stores that offer this.
Cash is also accepted.
– Card payments outside ICA must work as usual, the group states.
There is no forecast for when the problem may be fixed.
Depends on the shooting day
According to David Schubert, cashier at Ica Maxi in Östersund, the problem must be related to today’s date, February 29.
– The problem has to do with something going wrong with regard to the shooting day, he emphasizes according to P4 Jämtland.
Maria Elfvelin, press officer at Ica, confirms the information.
– I have been told that it is an internal problem caused by the shooting day, she tells Expressen.
Attention is paid to the cash issue
Due to the problems, several stores have had to shut down their cash registers that do not accept cash.
Many customers also raise the issue of the importance of cash when the card system has been phased out.
In January, the government announced that it had started an investigation in which it is considering the possibility of always being able to pay with cash when it comes to the purchase of food, for example.
– It is also important to look at the issue from a preparedness perspective, said Financial Markets Minister Niklas Wykman (M) at the time.
The update: Problem fixed
At 12:30, ICA states that card payments will once again work in most stores and at Apoteket Hjärtat.
