The Central Bank of Brazil will authorize a payment system that involves the WhatsApp messaging service, owned by Facebook, to send money and make payments through chats, as long as all the rules are respected, the director of the issuing body Joao Manoel Pinho.
“We see the entry of ‘big tech’ as a great opportunity,” said Pinho, director of Organization of the Financial System and Resolution of the Central Bank, in a videoconference organized by Genial Investimentos.
“We will authorize it, without any problem. They can take the path they want, take the initiatives they want, ”provided that the rules and regulations are followed, he said.
The Central Bank suspended the recently launched WhatsApp payment service last month and said it is analyzing whether it can operate safely in terms of data protection and competition.
The messaging application already allows you to send and receive money in Brazil and will soon extend it to other countries.
The new service is not only useful for sending money to family and friends, but in Brazil it can also be used to buy in some small shops that already offer their menus and catalogs in the messaging app.
