Brazil republished information on corona crisis on government website | NOW

Brazil on Tuesday published the detailed information on the spread of the coronavirus in the country. On Saturday, the information was abruptly removed from a government website.

The Brazilian Ministry of Health decided, among other things, to remove information about the total number of infections and the influence of the pandemic per region. This concerns data collected over several months.

The website is the main source of information for Brazilians about the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in the country. However, according to President Jair Bolsonaro’s government, the figures “do not provide a good picture of the country’s situation”.

Earlier on Tuesday The Supreme Court in Brazil ruled that the figures should be reset immediately, because otherwise the government cannot be monitored and because otherwise residents will be unable to monitor the health situation in their region. The government now seems to accept this ruling.

The coronavirus spreads quickly in Brazil. In less than two weeks, the number of infections increased by more than 100,000 cases last month. In total, there are now more than 37,000 deaths and more than 700,000 infections. Only the United Kingdom (40,000) and the United States (111,000) have more fatalities.

Meanwhile, Bolsonaro is under attack for his attitude to the virus. The President is against corona measures, because they would do too much harm to the economy.
